The Pacific University volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 17-25, 25-14, 25-23 decision to visiting George Fox on Friday night.
The Bruins (6-12, 4-5 NWC) had 13 blocks compared to four for the Boxers in the win. Bailey LeBreton posted a team-high six blocks, including two block solos and four block assists in the win. Plus, Paige O'Rear nearly had a double double with 16 kills and nine digs in the win to lead the visitors from Newberg.
The Boxers (14-5, 7-2 NWC) picked up a double double from both
Makenna Mahuna (41 assists and 12 digs) and
Nanea Lum (11 kills and 13 digs) in the loss.
After a tightly contested first set that saw the Bruins and Boxers tied on six occasions and three lead changes before the visitors came away with a 25-23 win. Pacific won the second set by a 25-17 margin on the strength of five kills by Lum and four each from
Elika Unti and
Milana Ivkovic.
With the match tied at a set apiece, the Bruins hit .370 en route to a 25-14 victory in the third set. O'Rear had four kills, plus LeBreton and Ashtyn Butler each had three for the visitors.
The fourth set saw the set tied on five occasions and three lead changes. The Boxers built a lead as large as six, 16-10, to prompt the Bruins to use their second and final timeout. George Fox came back to score nine of the next 12 points to tie the set at 19 and 22. The Bruins secured the win, scoring three of the final four points en route to a 25-22 win.
Next, Pacific will travel to Lewis & Clark on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Portland.
