Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Boxers Lose to Whitworth, 4-1

Whitworth and Pacific each scored in the opening seven minutes but the visitors capitalized on three opportunities later in the game en route to a 4-1 win in men's soccer action on Friday afternoon in Forest Grove.

The Pirates (4-5-1, 2-2 NWC) got on the scoreboard in the third minute when Eric Shaporda kicked a ball that ricocheted off the Boxers' keeper and into the back of the net.

The Boxers (1-6-1, 0-2-1 NWC) managed to equalize in the seventh minute when Lucas Muller dribbled it in for his first goal of the season, following a pass from Braden Kojima.

Whitworth regained the lead, later in the half, when Christian Pumpelly scored in the 26th minute to put the visitors ahead through the first 45 minutes.

Pacific had a pair of opportunities to tie the contest in the second half. Woodey Greer had a header attempt punched away by the Pirates' goalkeeper Bo Broyles. Then, Broyles also had a hand in keeping the Boxers off the scoreboard when he made a diving save on a penalty kick attempt by Grant Rutledge.

Whitworth added to its lead with goals by Britton Clifford and Braydon Change in the 69th and 82nd minute, respectively. Broyles finished the contest with three saves for the victorious Pirates.

For Pacific, Jack Cuevas made seven saves on 11 shots in his 90 minutes of action between the posts. Rutledge and Kojima each had two shots in the loss for the Boxers.

Next, Pacific will face Whitman on Sunday, October 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Boxers will look to snap a four-game losing streak to the Blues in the series history.
