Pacific Volleyball Rallies to Defeat Puget Sound in Five

Junior Jordan Zweifel had one of her best all-around matches of her career, recording a career-high 22 kills and 16 digs to lead the Pacific University volleyball team to a 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13 win over Puget Sound on Friday night in Forest Grove.
 
Zweifel sparked the Boxers with her play, leading the Boxers with a blistering .409 hitting percentage. Pacific managed to out hit the Puget Sound by a .275 to .125 margin in the win. Zweifel was one of three players for Pacific to record double-figure kills, senior Karlee Duncan and junior Nanea Lum added 12 and 11, respectively. With the win, Pacific raises its record to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the Northwest Conference.
 
The Loggers, who were just the third team to take the opening set from Pacific, as they won the opening set by a 25-21 margin despite an .074 hitting percentage. Puget Sound, who falls to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in the Northwest Conference, was a balanaced attack in the loss. Alli Reviglio and Jordan Holman had 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Sarah Blumenfield also had a double double in the loss, recording 26 assists and 14 digs.
 
Pacific sophomore setter Makenna Mahuna had her second match of the season with at least 50 assists en route to her second double double with 13 assists and a match-high 50 assists in the win.
 
In the fifth set, the Boxers overcame an early 3-1 deficit to take its first lead at 7-6. The set would go on to be tied on three more occasions before Pacific capitalized on a Puget Sound service error and a block solo by sophomore Elika Unti to prompt a Loggers timeout. Holding an 11-9 lead, the Boxers held off a late rally by the visitors with kills by Duncan and Zweifel en route to the 15-13 win.

Next, Pacific will host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Stoller Center. Last year, on October 12, 2018, the Boxers defeated the Lutes at home for the first time since October 11, 2003.
