Boxers Fall to Colorado College, 72-66

Colorado College broke a 48-48 tie with the first five points of the fourth quarter en route to a 72-66 win over the Pacific University women's basketball team on Friday.
 
The Boxers (2-2) were led by a 13-point effort from junior Camy Aguinaldo. She was joined in double figures by freshman Madison Cabardo and Brille Kovalhoff, who each had 12 in the loss.
 
The Tigers (3-3) were led by a 23-point effort from McKenzee Gertz, who scored a game-high 23 points including a 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line. Teammates Jordan Meltzer and Izzy Hensley added 17 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Pacific jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the opening 10 minutes with six-different scorers including six from Rilee Price, who hit a pair of 3-pointers. The Boxers defense held the host Tigers to 35.7% shooting from the field for the early advantage.
 
In the second quarter, the two teams defensive intensity saw each team limited to 14 points as the Boxers went into the halftime break with a 35-26 advantage.
 
Pacific remained in front for nearly the entire third quarter as the host Tigers continued to cut into the Boxers lead. Late in the quarter, Gertz put Colorado College ahead 48-46 with :19 left in the quarter and for the first time since the 8:24 mark of the first quarter.
 
The Boxers' tied the game at 48 just before the end of the quarter when senior Alexa Hinkley made a layup.
 
The five-straight points to start the fourth quarter put the host Tigers ahead but Pacific cut the deficit to one, 53-52, when Kovalhoff hit a jumper with 6:18 left to play. A 7-2 spurt and making seven of nine free throws by the home team sealed the win.
 
Next, Pacific will wrap up the weekend with a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday against Johnson & Wales (Colo.) in Colorado Springs.
