Back-to-back layups by Shanay Dotson and Alyssa Kuskie to start the fourth quarter sparked visiting Northwest Christian to a 62-55 win over host Pacific University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Boxers (4-3) were led by the third career double – first of the season – from junior
Courtney Carolan, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for Pacific. Freshman
Madison Cabardo came off the bench to score eight points and fellow freshman Brille Kovaloff had seven points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss.
Â
The Beacons (5-2) were led by a 16-point, nine-rebound effort from Morgan McKinney. She was joined in double figures by Kaylen Kamelamela and Kayce Mock, who had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Â
After the first 20 minutes, the two teams were tied at 34. Midway through the third quarter, Carolan hit a 3-pointer with 4:48 left in the third quarter to put the host Boxers ahead 41-37. The four-point lead would be the biggest of the second half for Pacific.
Â
The Boxers led for nearly the rest of the quarter until the Beacons' Dani Baker just before the end of the quarter hit a jumper to put the visitors back in front, 47-46 with :01 left in the third quarter. The Beacons remained in front for the remainder of the contest en route to the victory. Â Â
Pacific will be off for the holiday break before returning to the court just before the New Year as they will travel to Santa Cruz, Calif. for a pair of games. The Boxers will face the host Banana Slugs on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. and the University of Dubuque on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.
