The Pacific University softball team dropped a twinbill to No. 21 East Texas Baptist University on Saturday in Marshall, Texas.
The Boxers (3-2) lost game one by a narrow 10-9 margin and the nightcap by a 6-1 score. In game one, the Boxers had 11 hits and were limited to three in the nightcap. With the two wins, the Tigers improve to 4-0 on the season.
Game one saw the Boxers come back from a 7-1 deficit and nearly complete the come-from-behind victory. Four-different players had two hits for Pacific including sophomores Hailey Miler
(pictured) and
Jill Uyeda, who each had three RBIs. The Tigers got three hits each from Mariah Delgado and Daniella Solis in the win.
Trailing 7-1 in the fifth inning, the Boxers got back on the scoreboard as Uyeda emptied the bases on a three-RBI double. After giving up a run in its half of the fifth, the Boxers scored three more on five hits to make it a one-run game, 8-7. Again, the Tigers had an answer as they managed to score two in its half of the sixth.
Facing a three-run deficit, there remained plenty of fight in the Boxer dugout. The first three batters for the Boxers in the inning reached on a walk to load the bases for Miller, who delivered a two-RBI single up the middle. Then, ETBU kept the tying run off the scoreboard as the Boxers stranded the tying run at third.
In game two, each team plated a run in the first inning but the Tigers scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth for the win. The Boxers'
Hailey Miller had two more hits in the loss for Pacific.
Pacific loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first as the Boxers'
Montana Vaught took advantage of its third walk of the inning for the early 1-0 lead. The Tigers came back with an unearned run in the bottom half of the first to tie the contest.
A three-run home run in the fifth inning by ETBU put the Tigers ahead 4-1. Then, two more runs came in on a two-run home run in the sixth for the final margin. Again, Pacific managed to get a pair of base runners aboard in the seventh but were unable to push across any runs to end the comeback hopes.
Pacific will wrap up its trip to the Lone Star State on Sunday with a doubleheader against UT Dallas. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. (PST) and 11 a.m. (CST).
