The Pacific University lacrosse team opened Northwest Conference play with a 13-5 win over host Whitworth on Friday afternoon.
Roya Tahmassebi had her third hat trick of the season, scoring five goals in the contest to lead the Boxers, who improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northwest Conference. For Tahmassebi, she has had seven career hat trick games.
Whitworth (0-2, 0-1) managed to outshoot Pacific by a 29-26 margin but Pacific goalkeeper
Madyson Ivey had 16 saves in the win. Pirates' Trinity Frank accounted for two of the five goals in the loss.
The offense was not just Tahmassebi for Pacific as teammates
Alexa Erickson and
Rebecca Jimenez-Aleman each had two goals in the win. For Jimenez-Aleman, it was her first goals of the season; plus,
Vivian Mai,
Amber Lancia and
Julien Dagan each scored their first career goals.
Hannah Reulbach added her second goal of the season on a free-position shot.
"Today was an amazing team win after a hard loss earlier this week," said Pacific head coach
Brittany Hartmann. "Our confidence was back and we found a way to spread out the scoring as well as work towards each other's strengths. I am very proud of our team tonight."
Mai got the Boxers on the scoreboard first, finding the back of the next :53 into the match. Whitworth answered seconds later before four-straight goals by four-different Boxers put Pacific ahead for the remainder of the contest.
Next, Pacific will face Willamette on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 1 p.m. in Salem.
