Pacific Softball Extends Winning Streak to Six

The Pacific University softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Puget Sound on Saturday. The Boxers came back for a 5-3 win in game one and dominated the Loggers by an 8-0 margin in five innings in the nightcap.
 
Pacific (12-5, 6-0 NWC) came back from a 3-1 deficit to score four times in the fifth inning in game one. Montana Vaught and Hailey Miller each had two hits to lead an eight-hit attack. Miller finished the day with three RBI and Vaught scored twice. The top of the order – Nicole Martinez, Kaitlynn Donaca and Vaught scored four of the Boxers' five runs.

A three-RBI double by Hana DeGuzman in the fourth inning put the host Loggers ahead 3-1 before the come-from-behind efforts for the Boxers came alive in the fifth inning. In the inning, Pacific got a RBI single by Nicole Martinez, who brought in Becca Bernard from second. Then, with runners on first and third, Vaught brought in Martinez to tie the game at three on a double. Then with runners on first and third, Miller tripled through the right side to score Vaught and Donaca for two more runs in favor of the visitors.
 
The Boxers' Rylee Patton pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning, keeping Puget Sound off the scoreboard. Patton retired seven of the final eight batters she faced in order to preserve the win. Pacific starter Tiare Guerrero picked up the win, going the first three innings and allowing just three hits.
 
The nightcap saw another dominant pitching performance by Morgan Masters, who allowed just two hits in the win. She saw her offense give her eight hits of support and eight runs. Six-different Boxers had a hit including multi-hit games by Taylor Nishimura and Montana Vaught led the offense. Nishimura also had two RBI, Vaught and pinch runner Lilly Meek each had two runs scored.
 
After a scoreless the first three innings, Pacific erupted for five runs in the fourth and three more in the third to seal the five-inning win. In the five-run fourth inning, Pacific did all the damage on just two hits. Then, in the fifth, they picked up three runs on three hits including a RBI single by Hailey Miller.

Masters allowed two hits – both in the bottom of the first inning – and struck out nine for the win. The junior is now 6-1 on the season with a 1.35 ERA.
