The Pacific University women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to Willamette at the Holce Tennis Courts on Sunday.
The Bearcats (4-8, 2-4 NWC) started the day, winning at #1 and #3 doubles.
The Boxes (4-11, 1-5 NWC) got its first win of the day when the #2 doubles team of
Halie Chang and
Johanna Wilson were victorious by an 8-5 margin. The win moves them into a tie for the team lead with four wins along with
Chantelle Baclay and
Marissa Hayashi and extends their winning streak to two.
Pacific found itself behind 3-1 with a win at #2 singles by the Bearcats before coming back with wins at #1 and #3 singles to tie the match at 3.
Chantelle Baclay was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at #1 singles for the Boxers and
Adrienne Powell was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at #3 singles. Now, Powell has nine singles wins on the season to lead the Boxers.
Next, Willamette regained the lead with a win at #6 singles but the Boxers had an answer with a 6-2, 6-2 win by
Marissa Hayashi at #5 singles.
With the match tied at 4, the match was to be decided at #4 singles between the Bearcats' Sylvia Marr and Boxers'
Johanna Wilson. The first set was decided by a narrow 7-6 margin by Marr. The second set went back and forth before as Marr outlasted Wilson by a 6-4 margin for the victory and secure the win for Willamette.
The Boxers will wrap up its season with a match against George Fox on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and at Lewis & Clark on Saturday at 11 a.m.
