Less than 24 hours after clinching the #3 seed at the upcoming Northwest Conference Tournament, the Pacific University men's tennis team was back on the court for its final regular season match on Sunday with an 11 a.m. tilt against Willamette.
The Boxers (11-8, 6-2 NWC) showed no sense of tire as they quickly posted an 8-1 win over the host Bearcats at the WU Tennis Courts. For the eighth time in 11 wins, Pacific swept all three doubles matches to begin the contest.
Pacific shuffled its singles lineup, winning five of six singles matches. Among the winners were
Reyn Miyagawa, who was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) winner at #1 singles,
Joey Balleweg was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at #3 singles. With the win, Miyagawa raises his singles record to a team-best 15-4. The 15 wins by
Reyn Miyagawa are the most by a Pacific player since 2016 as Clark Wininger posted a 17-2 mark.
The Boxers also picked up straight set wins at #5 singles by
Cooper Rich and #6 singles by
Matt Weiler. The fifth singles win came as
Reece Parr won in three sets at #4 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Next, Pacific will travel to the Northwest Conference Tournament for a seventh-straight year as they will face No. 2 seed George Fox on Saturday, April 27.
