The Pacific University women's soccer engaged in a tightly contested matchup against Chapman on Sunday morning for its 2019 season opener in a 2-0 loss.
The Boxers (0-1) allowed a pair of first half goals to the Panthers, who played the final 79:38 minutes of the match with 10 players.
Chapman (2-0) got on the scoreboard in the 10
th minute as Riley Pidgeon successfully landed a corner kick into the goal. After the Panthers' goal, a Chapman player was issued a red card forcing the visitors from Orange, California to play down a player for the rest of the match.
Pacific sought the equalizer for the remainder of the half. The Boxers' attack mounted some offensive opportunities in the first 45 minutes, including a pair of free kicks by freshman
Maliah Jobe and senior
Courtney Olsen, respectively.
Later in the half, in the 43
rd minute, the Panthers added their final goal when Lily Annen got a shot to the back of the net on a rebound after a free kick by teammate Rory Biles.
In the 68
th minute, Pacific nearly ended the shutout bid for the Panthers' Kelsey Bland as a shot by
Lydia King came up short. Bland finished the game with three saves for her second-straight shutout. Her Pacific counterpart
Saya Brown made eight saves, facing 14 shots in the loss.
Next, Pacific will host Cal Tech on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. as part of a soccer doubleheader at Ledbetter Field on Hanson Stadium. The men will host Oregon Tech at 4:30 p.m., prior to the contest.
