The Boxers raced in their first full-distance races Friday evening at the Western Oregon Sundownder Invite. The women placed 9th with 243 points. The men's team only fielded three runners in the 8,000m race, and did not reflect a team score. This meet hosted teams representing NCAA DI, DII, DIII and the NJCCA, and was a great opportunity for the Boxers to compete in a large, competitive field.
Hannah Berdahl led the women's race with an aggressive start, and raced in the top field through 3,000m. Berdahl came away with a 39th place finish in 24:14.30. Kara Putman, Eliza Irish, Taylor Isaac and Liz Bradley rounded out the top five scoring places for the Boxers with impressive 46th, 55th, 59th, and 71st finishes, respectively. The Boxer's top five runners had only a 75-second spread between them all, the 6th closest spread out of all teams.
Riley Stewart led the Boxers in the men, placing 67th with a time of 27:10.50, a strong season opener or Stewart. Oliver Joss was second for the Boxers, picking up 91st place in a time of 28:45.80. Garrett Stewart rounded out the Boxer men with his 101st place finish.
"The Boxers ran their first full-distances races of the season at a highly competitive meet," said head coach Matt Lydum. "The returners looked great, and the newcomers did a fine job moving up to the full race distance."
