A three-goal effort in the second half by host Willamette led the Bearcats to a 3-0 win over the Pacific University women's soccer team on Saturday.
Pacific (2-4, 0-3 NWC) put offensive pressure on Willamette throughout the first 45 minutes with three shots that were saved by the Bearcats' starting goalkeeper Kristen Barclay. Despite an increase in its offensive intensity, in the second half, the Boxers were unable to come away with a goal.
Willamette (3-3, 2-0 NWC) went ahead in the 61
st minute on an Emma Blackburn goal, who also had a role in the second goal in the 67
th minute. Willamette recorded a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal in the win. Barclay along with reserves Jordan Roue and Graisela Quevedo-Ramos teamed up for the shutout. Quevedo-Ramos came off the bench in the second half to make a pair of saves before Roue entered for the final 5:13 of the match.
Pacific started the second half with a shot by
Maliah Jobe in the 54
th minute that was saved by Quevedo-Ramos and an offsides call moments later kept the visitors off the scoreboard. Later in the half, trailing by a 2-0 margin, the Boxers'
Emma Gusman had a shot to the bottom right that was saved by Quevedo-Ramos.
Next, the Boxers are home for a stretch of four-consecutive home contests beginning with Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon.
