Pacific University sophomore
Sydnie Binder, who entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, has reached the semifinals of the 2019 ITA NW Women's Regional Tournament to lead the Boxers women's tennis team.
Binder started the tournament with three-consecutive straight set victories, then on Sunday she posted a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 2 seed Andrea Gu of Whitman. On Monday, she will face No. 6 seed Tessa Kern of Linfield.
Earlier in the weekend,
Adrienne Powell won her opening round match of the main draw with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lia Van Steeter of Puget Sound. She lost her next match to Kern, 6-0, 6-1.
Binder and Powell teamed up to reach the quarterfinals in the doubles. The duo began the tournament with an 8-0 win over the pair of Alyssa Oberg and Yulia Heggestad of Willamette. Then, they followed it up with an 8-6 win over the No. 5 seed Michelle Ly and Allena Wong of Linfield. The run for the tournament title ended with an 8-4 loss to No. 4 seed Nastya Redkins and Angel Le of Whitman.
