Pacific University freshman Mitch Takara scored his first collegiate goal and senior goalkeeper Jack Cuevas extended his scoreless streak to 165:49 with his second-straight shutout en route to leading the Boxers to a 1-0 win over La Verne on Sunday.
 
The Boxers (1-2-1) called on Takara to come off the bench in the 43^rd minute. Quickly, he made an immediate impact as the La Verne defense quickly collapsed in front of the Pacific goal on one of the Boxers top offensive threats – senior Robert Nurmi. As they came forward to put pressure on Pacific, Nurmi got a shot off but an alert Takara picked up the rebound for a shot and game-winning goal just inside the corner of the goal.
 
The Leopards (3-2) saw their starting goalkeeper go down with an injury two minutes into the contest were held without a shot in the first 45 minutes. La Verne turned up the intensity on the offensive side of the field in the final 45 minutes.  Jack Kolodge got off a shot in the 59^th minute that was cleared off by the Boxers' defensive line.

Cuevas organized a strong defensive effort for Pacific, making a pair of saves en route to the shutout. For Pacific, they had a 9-6 advantage in shots in the win.

Next up for Pacific is a contest against NCAA Division II, Saint Martin's on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in Lacey, Washington.
