Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pacific Extends Winning Streak to Eight with 82-68 Win Over Whitworth

The recipe for success in its eight-game winning streak for the Pacific women's basketball team has been an all-around team effort. On Saturday, the Boxers came together and shot 56.7% from the field and outrebounded the visitors by a 35-29 margin en route to an 82-68 win over Whitworth.

The Boxers (12-3, 6-0 NWC) remain atop the standings in the Northwest Conference play after landing three players in double figures with Rilee Price scoring a game-high 23 points to go along with nine assists for the freshman from Brea, California.

She was joined in double figures by junior Courtney Carolan, who had 20 points for her sixth-straight game in double digits, plus freshman Brilie Kovaloff added 15 points for her fourth-consecutive game with double digits. Freshman Kaylssa Kleinschmmit had eight points and five rebounds in her first collegiate start and fellow freshman Alexis Intong had a game-high eight rebounds to go along with three points for Pacific.

The Pirates (9-6, 2-4 NWC) were able to put four in double figures including Quincy McDeid, who had a team-high 15. Sydney Abbott, Courtney Grady and Jordan Smith each had 10 in the loss.

After not leading until the final 1:11 of Friday's contest, the Boxers led from nearly start to finish in Saturday's contest. After the contest was tied at three in the first 1:04 of the game, Pacific senior Alexa Hinkley knocked down a 3-pointer that put the Boxers ahead for the remainder of the game. The Boxers came out of the gates and shot 62.5% (10-for-16) from the field en route to a 24-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Price and the Boxers were able to extend the lead to 12 just before the halftime break as the freshman picked up a steal and layup in the closing seconds as Pacific led 43-31 at the intermission. The 12-point lead was the Boxers biggest advantage for the first 20 minutes.

Pacific extended its lead to 20 with eight-consecutive points to begin the second half. The Boxers built the lead as large as 23 on three occasions in the third quarter en route to the win. In the final 20 minutes, Pacific shot 62.9% to pick up the win.

Next, Pacific will put its eight-game winning streak – its first since 1995-96 – on the line when they host Willamette on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.
