Davis Holly scored a career-high 43 points – the first 40-point game by a Pacific player since Garold Howe (Jan. 26, 2008 vs. Pacific Lutheran) – as the Boxers dropped a 97-96 decision to host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday night.
Holly made 15 of 21 shots from the field including a 7-for-12 effort from beyond the arc to lead the Boxers, who fall to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in the Northwest Conference. Teammate
Nick Drynan joined him in double figures with 15 points.
Pacific Lutheran (9-8, 4-3 Northwest Conference) were able to land four players in double figures including Leighton Kingma, who had 26 points. He was joined by Jordan Thomas (25 points), Seth Hall (19 points) and Conor Geiger (16 points), who also had a game-high 10 rebounds en route to a double double.
The back and forth contest saw each team lead on seven occasions and the score tied on four occasions.
Holly put Pacific ahead 96-95 with a layup with :55 to go. Later in the game with :17 left to play, the Lutes' came away with a defensive rebound. Next an open Geiger made a layup, following a pass from Kingma for what proved to be the difference in the game.
A last-second 3-pointer attempt by Holly came up short for the Boxers to allow the host Lutes to prevail with the win.
Next for Pacific on the schedule is its second time facing Northwest Conference opponents as the action gets underway with a Friday night matchup against Lewis & Clark at the Stoller Center at 8 p.m. on January 31
st.
