Six Boxers Score in Double Figures to Lead Boxers to 116-110 Road Win Over Lewis & Clark

Six Boxers scored in double figures to lead the Pacific University men's basketball team to a 116-110 win over Lewis & Clark on Saturday in Portland.

The Boxers (4-7, 1-1 NWC) were led by the 26-point effort from senior Marcus Wallace, who was 10 of 19 from the field to go along with six steals. Joining him in double figures was freshman Nick Drynan, who was nearly perfect from the field with an 8-for-9 effort from the field en route to 19 points, plus sophomore Jared Cattell (13 points), sophomore Colin Rardin (12 points), senior Andy Isokpehi (11 points) and senior Davis Holly (10 points) also had a hand in the win.

Lewis & Clark (5-6, 1-1 NWC) was paced by a game-high 29 points from Brian Smith, who was 12 for 13 from the field. He was jolined in double figures by Matt Brown (22 points), Zeke Crawford (20 points) and Christian Pitcher (17 points).

A back and forth first half saw three lead changes and the score tied on four more occasions but Pacific went ahead for good when Cattell hit his second 3-pointer of the half that put the visitors ahead 47-44 with 4:49 left in the first 20 minutes.

Smith completed a 3-point play with 16:33 left in the second half to cut the deficit for the host Pioneers to one, 70-69. However, the Boxers had an answer with a 7-2 spurt – four of the seven points came from junior John Rigatti. Eventually, Pacific would build the lead to as large as 14 but again, Lewis & Clark had comeback in them.

The Pioneers closed within one when Smith knocked down a jumper with 3:03 left to play, cutting the Boxers lead to one, 103-102. This time, the Boxers went to Holly, who scored next five points for Pacific to make it a two-possession game for the remainder of the contest to seal the win.

Next, Pacific will host George Fox on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Stoller Center.
