After a back and forth first four minutes, visiting George Fox take a lead that they would not relinquish en route to a 115-85 win over host Pacific University on Tuesday night.
The Boxers (4-8, 1-2 NWC), who were playing its third game in five days, were led by
Nick Drynan, who had a team-high 13 points. Seniors
Davis Holly and
Marcus Wallace each had 12 in the loss for Pacific.
The Bruins (6-6, 2-1 NWC) spread the scoring wealth among six players in double figures including Zach Sly, who had a game-high 19 in the win. He was joined in double figures by Ryan Lacey and JD Ahlstrom, who each had 16 and Kalu Stricklin, Emilio Mancol and Michael Mercado-Smith each had 10.
George Fox opened up the game by shooting 50% from the field and improved on its efforts in the final 20 minutes, shooting 57.1% (24-for-42) en route to 53.3% for the contest.
Pacific held the lead until a layup by Sly put the visitors ahead for the first time at 11-10 with 15:53 in the first half. The visitors managed to never relinquish the lead despite the continuous pressure by a Boxer defense that forced 29 turnovers in the loss. The Boxers were able to cut the deficit to three on seven occasions throughout the opening half but unable to come any closer.
Next up for Pacific is a trip to Tacoma on Friday night to face Puget Sound at 8 p.m.
