Pacific nearly rallied back from a 6-0 deficit but proved to be too much as Pacific Lutheran added to its lead with insurance runs in the sixth and two in the eighth en route to a non-conference win on Friday night.
The Boxers (1-4) got behind early 6-0 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the inning, Pacific got five hits including a RBI triple by
Jordan Hara, a RBI double by
Makoa Nakamura and a a RBI single by
Tanner Johnson as they sent nine batters to the plate.
Pacific finished the game with 10 hits, including three from Hara and two from Johnson in the loss.
Pacific Lutheran, who was playing in its first game of the season, was able to record 11 hits in the win. The Lutes' offense was paced by a pair of two-hit efforts from Jordan Haworth and Tori Doten, plus Dominick Zombik had four RBIs. Jacob Mortensen was one of three PLU pitchers, who went five innings for the win. He allowed five hits, three runs (two earned) and struck out four.
The Boxers will next host Puget Sound in a doubleheader on Sunday at noon at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
