YellowJackets End Boxers Winning Streak with Doubleheader Sweep

The Pacific University softball team saw its three-game winning streak end at the hands of LeTourneau University on Friday. The YellowJackets swept the doubleheader, winning game one 4-3 in eight innings and the nightcap, 11-2 in five innings.

Pacific (3-5) started the day, picking up where it had left off the night before with an early 2-0 lead through the first five innings. The host YellowJackets plated a run each in the sixth and seventh to send the contest to extra innings.

With the international tie-breaker rule in place, the Boxers plated a run on a fielder's choice by Cheyenne Datan in the top of the eighth for a 3-2 lead. LeTourneau answered with a pair of runs on a pair of hits for the come-from-behind win.

In the loss, Katelyn Macatis-Smith led the Boxers with two of the six hits.

The YellowJackets built off its game one momentum and scored six runs on two hits for an early lead. They carried that into a three-run second inning to take a 9-0 lead before the Boxers scored twice in the top of the third.

The Boxers managed three hits – Becca Bernard, Hailey Miller, Katelyn Macatis-Smith each had a hit - in the nightcap.

With a 9-2 lead, LETU added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Neither team scored in the next two innings as the YellowJackets posted the 11-2, five inning win.

Next, Pacific will get on the road to face another team along I-20 and regional foe, Centenary in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. in Shreveport.
