Senior Katelyn Macatis-Smith extended her hitting streak to five with a pair of multi-hit games as the Pacific University softball team split a doubleheader with host Centenary on Saturday. The Boxers lost the first game by a 6-5 margin and came back with an 8-4 win in the nightcap.
Macatis-Smith had two hits in game one and four in game two to lead the Boxer offense that had 11 hits in game one and a season-high 17 in game two. The doubleheader split puts Pacific at 4-6 on the season.
In game one after Pacific scored a pair of runs in the first two innings for an early 4-0 lead, Centenary came back with five in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
Pacific managed to tie the game in the fourth at five but the Ladies had an answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning en route to the victory.
In the game one loss, junior
Nicole Martinez had four hits and three runs scored from her leadoff position.
Montana Vaught and
Hailey Miller each had two RBI and Macatis-Smith had a pair of hits.
In the nightcap, the Boxers broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh to score four runs en route to an 8-4 win. In the inning, Macatis-Smith hit a two-run home run to go along with a RBI single each by Martinez and
Hannah Williams.
Williams and Macatis-Smith each had four hits and two RBIs to lead the Boxers in the win, plus Vaught had three hits and Martinez and
Haylie Uetake each had two hits.
Morgan Masters picked up the win, following a complete game.
Pacific will wrap up its road trip with a doubleheader against East Texas Baptist University on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CST) / 9 a.m. (PST).
