East Texas Baptist Rallies to Edge Boxers in Extra Innings

A back-and-forth game between #13 East Texas Baptist and Pacific University saw the host Tigers score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to take a 9-8 win on Sunday.

The Boxers and the Tigers each had 14 hits in the contest, including a pair of three-hit efforts from junior Nicole Martinez and senior Hailey Miller to lead Pacific. Plus, senior Katelyn Macatis-Smith had four RBI in the loss. In the brief five-game series history between the two teams, three have been decided two runs or less.

Pacific regained the lead, scoring twice in the top of the ninth for an 8-6 lead. The Tigers scored three – two unearned runs – in the bottom half of the inning for the comeback victory.

In the top of the ninth, with runners on second and third, Macatis-Smith brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, with two out, Miller brought in Martinez for the second run of the inning.
The Tigers scored its three runs on three hits, capitalizing on a pair of errors for the win.

Next, Pacific will be idle until it begins Northwest Conference play on the weekend of Feb. 29-Mar. 1 when they travel to Linfield for a pair of doubleheaders.
