Boxers Send Out Seniors with 66-54 Win Over Pacific Lutheran

The Pacific University women's basketball team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a 66-54 win over Pacific Lutheran on Friday night at the Stoller Center.

The Boxers (16-8, 10-5 NWC) were able to land three double players in double figures including junior Camy Aguinaldo (18 points), freshman Rilee Price (16 points) and junior Courtney Carolan (11 points). The victory put Pacific in double digits against Northwest Conference teams for the first time since 1995-96 (11 wins) and the 16 wins to match the most by a Pacific team since 1993-94. The win also avenges a 61-58 loss to the Lutes in Tacoma on January 25.

The Lutes (10-14, 5-10 NWC) had four players in double figures including Megan Drake, who had a double double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Pacific Lutheran. She was joined in double figures by Toni Thibert (12 points), Emma Janousek (11 points) and Kylie Rademacher (10 points).

PLU started the game, shooting 50% from the field in the opening quarter for an early 14-12 lead. Pacific came back midway through the second quarter with a 9-0 spurt to regain the lead nearly for the remainder of the contest. However, neither team was able to sustain a lead and went back and forth and was tied on two more occasions at 24 and 26, respectively until Pacific freshman Kalyssa Kleinschmit scored her only points of the game with a 3-pointer to send Pacific into the break with a 29-26 lead.

With a 3-point lead, Pacific added to its lead with its recipe for success that has worked all season – hot shooting and stifling defense. The Boxers shot 50% (9-for-18) from the field and held the Lutes to 36.4% (4-for-11) to seize control of the game. Price sparked the Boxers, going 4-for-4 from the field in the quarter en route to the victory.

Next, Pacific will close out the regular season with a trip to Salem on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. to face Willamette.
