Nick Drynan drove in for a layup with 1:55 left to play to put the visiting Boxers ahead for the first time since the 8:50 mark of the second half. The Spokane, Washington native came back on the ensuing possession with a 3-pointer to lead the Boxers to a 99-96 win over host George Fox.
Drynan finished the game with 32 points, including 25 in the final 20 minutes to lead the visitors to its first win in Newberg since January 20, 2015. He was joined in double figures by
Andrew Dufort and
Davis Holly with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Pacific raises its record to 6-14 overall and 3-8 in the Northwest Conference.
George Fox (8-12, 4-7 NWC) had four players in double figures including Ryan Lacey, who had 24 to lead the Bruins. He was joined in double figures by JD Ahlstrom (22 points), Jackson Januik (16 points) and Zach Sly (13 points).
Pacific found itself trailing down by one, 91-90, until the hot-shooting rookie drove to the hoop for a layup that sparked five unanswered points for the visitors. The visitors managed to score seven of the next nine points en route to the win.
For the game, Pacific shot 46.4% from the field and 88.9% (24-for-27) from the free throw line in the win. The Bruins shot 46.6% from the field and 70.8% (17-for-24) from the free throw line.
Next, Pacific will host Puget Sound on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Stoller Center. At halftime of the game, the Boxers will honor the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national champion in the javelin, Brooke France.
