The Pacific University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Whittier, losing 14-12 and 6-5 in five innings on Saturday.
The Boxers (0-4) pounded out 10 hits, including three from
Tanner Johnson, two each from
Jordan Hara and
Chase Anderson in the loss. Hara and
Derek Legeza each had two RBI in the loss.
The Poets (2-1) overcame deficits of 6-0 and 9-5, respectively. Whittier took its first lead on the day with a five-run fifth inning. Brandon Lara-Marck paced the offense with four hits and four RBI, plus Mike Hernandez and Alexander Jelloian each had three hits in the win.
Whittier used seven-different pitchers including Nathan Bacosa, who pitched 1.2 innings of relief for the win and Jacob Bauer pitched the ninth for a save.
The nightcap nearly had the same amount of offensive fireworks before darkness forced the game to be called after six innings as Whittier edged the Boxers by a 6-5 margin.

Chase Anderson had a pair of home runs as the Boxers outhit the Poets by an 8-5 margin.
With the game tied at one, Whittier plated three runs before Pacific regained the lead in the third inning scoring three times for a 5-4 lead. In the inning, Anderson hit his second home run of the game and third of the doubleheader.
With Pacific holding a one-run lead, the Poets loaded the bases with one out. Then, Jarryd Samsing singled to plate a pair of runs which proved to be the difference in the game.
Next, Pacific will face La Verne on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a single game.
