Bretschieder Scores Early and Boxers Hold On for Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Tessa Bretschieder (Freshman/Eugene, OR) netted a goal early in the contest and the Pacific women's soccer team's defense would put in a fantastic performance to earn all three points in their 1-0 win over Willamette.

Pacific (5-7-1, 3-6-1 NWC) kept their third clean sheet of the season in a brilliant defensive display. Julianna Ventura (Junior/Pasco, WA) and Elizabeth Blair (Senior/Cottonwood, UT) were excellent anchors of the defensive backline. Catalina Alvarado (Junior/Tucson, AZ) and Sequoia Gregory (Freshman/Eugene, OR) were buzzing around the wide areas of pitch and stifled any attacks on the flanks.

The Boxers registered 11 shots with four on target while the Bearcats would also tally 11 shots in the contest. Pacific won seven corners on the day and looked very dangerous in their set piece opportunities.

Bretschieder gave her team the perfect start in the 7th minute with a moment of individual brilliance. The freshman forward did well to beat her defender down the byline and fired a shot from a tight angle and managed to squeeze it past the goalkeeper for her team-high fourth goal of the season.

Catherine Corlett (Sophomore/Gilbert, AZ) was brilliant between the post and made multiple excellent saves to preserve the clean sheet. The goalkeeper made a stellar save in the 23rd minute, leaping to tip a shot over the crossbar.

Corlett was tested against shortly after the break and denied a similar opportunity, getting a hand to a lofted shot from outside the penalty area.

Karla Herrera-Zarate (Senior/Milwaukie, OR) had the best chance to double the lead in the 68th minute, but the midfielder's shot would sail high.

Some great organization and energized defending would propel the Boxers to the 1-0 win as the hosts would earn all their points.
