Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pacific Edged by Pioneers

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University women's soccer team hosted Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon and the visitors just barely edged the Boxers to pick up the 1-0 victory and three points on the road.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the contest as each side recorded eight shots. The Pioneers were slightly more dangerous in front of goal, racking up four shots on target while Pacific (5-8-1, 3-7-1 NWC) only managed two in the match.

Lydia King (Senior/Hillsboro, OR) had the best chance etch her name on the scoresheet in the 5th minute when the forward did well to cut on to her left foot, but her shot would curl just wide of the post.

This was the beginning of some solid play from the hosts who won multiple corners around the 10-minute mark. Julianna Ventura (Junior/Pasco, WA) nearly nodded in one of those opportunities but her headed effort sailed just high.

An uneventful first half would send the teams into the locker room scoreless, with all to play for in the second half.

Lewis & Clark got the goal they shortly after the second half kickoff when Celeste Schreifels scored a wonderful goal, spinning on to her right foot and whipping a shot into the top corner to give her team the 1-0.

This would prove to be the game-winning goal as the Boxers were unable to find any rhythm offensively.

Ivette Garcia-Gomez (Sophomore/Hillsboro, OR) nearly netted the equalizer in the 81st minute when she tried her luck from well outside the penalty area, but the sophomore's effort would rattle the crossbar

Katelyn Volchok (Sophomore/Portland, OR) made her first appearance of the season as she returned from injury.

By The Numbers
  • Catherine Corlett (Sophomore/Gilbert, AZ) made three saves in goal.
  • Brooklyn Yano (Sophomore/Kaneohe, HI) and King each tallied a shot on target.
  • Pacific has not scored against the Pioneers since the 2018 season.
