Boxers Fall to Bruins in Newberg

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Pacific University football team was unable to find any rhythm on Saturday afternoon as George Fox would come out on top, picking up the 21-14 victory while handing the Boxers their second straight defeat.

Pacific (3-3, 2-2 NWC) recorded 299 yards of total offense but managed just 14 points in the contest, their lowest total of the season. George Fox (4-2, 4-0 NWC) registered 347 yards on just 56 plays, which was 10 fewer than the Boxers.

Quarterback Kenyon Harris (Senior/Ogden, UT) threw just 14 passes prior to the fourth quarter but rallied for a decent day, going 17-26 for 117 yards. This was the senior's first game this season without a touchdown pass.

Joshua Harris (Senior/Sonora, CA) led the Pacific offense with 136 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. The running back tallied his fourth 100-yard rushing performance and leads the team with nine touchdowns this season.

Kyle Kern (Junior/Roseville, CA) led the receiving corps with a team-high 11 catches, but only mustered 62 yards. The longest reception from the junior was 15 yards.

How It Happened

George Fox received the opening kickoff and started the game with an impressive drive. The eight-play, 73-yard drive was capped off by a Haiden Schaan four-yard touchdown rush to make the score 7-0 in the early minutes.

The two teams would trade three-and-outs on their next drives before the Boxer offense would go to work late in the first quarter. Josh Harris would carry the ball six times and he would finish the drive with a two-yard plunge for his first touchdown of the day. This touchdown would even the score at 7-7 going into the second quarter.

The offenses would go quiet in the second quarter as each team would be forced to punt twice. The Bruins finally ended the scoring drought before the halftime whistle when Josh Schmidt scampered for 36 yards to the end zone to give his team a 14-7 before the break.

George Fox picked off Kenyon Harris on Pacific's first drive in the second half and capitalized by scoring just a few plays later. A screen pass to Ethan Kassebaum would go 37 yards to the house and the hosts would extend their lead to 21-7.

The Boxers' next drive would stall, but a successful fake punt would give them the first down. Kash Taylor (Junior/Hemet, CA) caught the direct snap and ran off the left tackle for 14 yards, giving Pacific some life late in the third quarter.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Boxers were putting together a great drive but it was immediately halted by a fumble on the George Fox 14-yard line.

Pacific would get the ball back quickly and managed to score on their next drive as Kenyon Harris completed six straight passes to lead his team down the field. Josh Harris punched one in from the one-yard line to cut the deficit to just a touchdown (21-14).

The Bruins would give the ball back after the Boxer defense came up big once more, however, Pacific's final drive would come up short after a turnover on downs.

Kenyon Harris was 10-11 in the final period but it would prove to be too little, too late as George Fox earned the 21-14 win on their home turf.
