Buchert and Heflin Score; Boxers Earn a Point at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore.- The Pacific University men's soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit to rescue a point on the road in their 2-2 draw at Linfield on Sunday afternoon.

Pacific (6-7-2, 3-5-2 NWC) would have loved three points against a Linfield side that currently sits at the bottom of the Northwest Conference table, but would have to settle for a point after two Wildcat goals in quick succession put the Boxers on the back foot.

Linfield were strong on their home ground as they fired 21 shots with eight on target while Pacific managed 11 shots with five on frame. The Wildcats won 11 corners on the day as they attempted to use set pieces to their advantage.

With four yellow cards and 24 fouls committed, the hosts looked to use aggressiveness and physicality to match up to a Boxers' team that has looked particularly confident as of late.

Brodie Buchert (Freshman/Riverside, CA) scored from the penalty spot to net the opening goal but Linfield responded by scoring twice in two minutes to take the lead. Aidan Heflin (Freshman/Taos, NM) scored his second goal in the last two matches to level the contest just after halftime. Neither team could find the winning goal and the points would be shared this afternoon.

Pacific won a corner kick in the 32nd minute and Linfield would commit a foul in the box after the set piece was delivered into the penalty area by Jericho Lara (Junior/Makawao, HI). Buchert promptly slotted his penalty home to give his team the early edge.

The Wildcats replied by hitting the Boxers for two quick goals right after the kickoff, taking a 2-1 lead after they found goals through Sid Kosaris and Seamus Miller.

Shortly after the second half commenced, Pacific found the equalizer. Tait Kuchenbrod (Freshman/Missoula, MT) chested down a lofted pass and it would find its way to the right foot of Heflin, who curled his shot into the top corner to level the contest at 2-2.

Both teams would create a variety of scoring chances in the two extra time periods but neither side could find the winner and it would finish all square in McMinnville.

By The Numbers

  • Kuchenbrod picked up his first career assist.
  • Zachary Aderinto (Freshman/Kailua-Kona, HI) made six saves in goal.
  • Pacific sits at sixth in the NWC table with four games remaining.
