Ethan Moss put in the game winner with one second left on the clock to lift the Pacific men's basketball team (2-0) over the George Fox University Bruins (1-7) Saturday night in Newburg, OR.
The host Bruins took a three point lead on two free throws by Jackson Januik with :53 left in the second half. Senior
Brennen McNabb, who led the Boxers with 20 points and 14 rebounds, tipped in a miss with :39 on the clock to cut the Bruin lead to one. The Boxer's defense held on the next possession before
Ethan Moss took it the length of the court in seven seconds to hit the game winner.
The contest between two of the three Northwest Conference schools in Oregon competing this spring featured six lead changes and 18 ties. It was the second win for the Boxers over the Bruins this week as they earned a 112-98 win Thursday night at home.
"This was a great first weekend for us. We haven't played a game in over a year and I thought our guys came out and played with great energy, effort and resiliency," said head coach
Justin Lunt. "Being down in both games and battling back to win says a lot about this group's toughness and togetherness."
McNabb and Moss led the scoring effort and 14 total Boxers scored as the team broke the 100 point threshold for the second time in as many games. Freshman
Shawn Cotton Jr. (3-3 3pt and 4-4 FT) and Sophomore
Ethan Chung also scored in double digits on the night. Januik led the Bruins with 20 points in the loss.
The Boxers return to play next Friday at Linfield University, and again against those same Wildcats Saturday evening from the Stoller Center at Pacific University.
