TEMPE, Ariz.- The Pacific University men's and women's tennis programs were named to the 2021 Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, announced Tuesday morning.

The men's tennis team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.614 while the women's team impressed with a team-GPA of 3.543 during Spring 2021 competition.

Nine members of the Boxer men's tennis squad earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition. This included
Joey Balleweg (Senior/Temecula, Calif.),
Quentin Gonzalez (Junior/Orange, Calif.),
Joey Hu (Junior/Aiea, Hawaii),
Jeffery Kubota (Sophomore/Pleasanton, Calif.) ,
Reyn Miyagawa (Junior/Kaneohe, Hawaii) ,
Rayden Murata (Senior/Kaimuki, Hawaii),
Koby Murata (Junior/Kaimuki, Hawaii),
Matt Weiler (Junio/Dundee, Ore.), and
Garret Katayama (Senior/Boise, Ida.).

The Boxers had more men's tennis student-athletes recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete than any other team in the Northwest Conference (NWC).

Individual athletes must maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, while a team must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above to be named an ITA All-Academic Team.

In 2021, 592 Division III Men student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 111 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. On the women's side, 605 Division III Women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 144 women's tennis programs garnered the All-Academic Team honors.
