FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University women's soccer team got a very important 90 minutes of fitness as they hosted an exhibition match against Corban University (Ore.) Thursday night at Hanson Stadium.
 
The Warriors used two second-half goals to propel themselves to a 2-0 victory to open their regular season schedule. 
 
Corban enjoyed majority of the possession and registered 13 shots with five on target. Their defense proved to be quite organized and compact, holding the Boxers to just two shots with one on target.
 
The first 30 minutes of the match were hotly contested and Pacific managed create a few scoring opportunities despite their lack of possession. Emma Gusman (Senior/Aiea, HI) created problems for the Corban defense and proved to be very lively from the start. The senior nearly broke through less than two minutes into the game but was denied by a vital block from a Warriors' defender.
 
In the 34^th minute, Julianna Ventura (Junior/Pasco, WA) came through with an excellent goal line clearance to keep the teams level going into halftime. The center back pairing of Kaylen Soo (Sophomore/Waianae, HI) and Ventura looked solid in their season debut as they anchored a defensive backline that kept Corban off the scoresheet in the first 45 minutes.
 
The Warriors' pressure would eventually prove to be too much when Maria-Franc Serrant was sent through on goal and slotted her chance with ease to open the scoring shortly after halftime. 
 
In the 61^st minute, Corban doubled their advantage through Mei Suetsugu's thumping effort from outside the penalty area. Suetsugu's shot found the roof of the net and gave the Warriors the cushion they needed to see out the victory.

• Gusman recorded both shots for the Boxers. 

 

• Tessa Bretschieder (Freshman/Eugene, OR) and Sequoia Gregory (Freshman/Eugene,OR) each made their full debut for Pacific.

 

• Catherine Corlett (Sophomore/Gilbert, AZ) made three saves between the posts.
