Boxers Drop Conference Opener

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University women's soccer team struggled to create scoring opportunities in their Northwest Conference opener and suffered a 1-0 loss to George Fox on Saturday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.

Both teams were particularly quiet going forward as there were only six shots in the entire contest. The first 45 minutes would finish scoreless before the Bruins finally found the breakthrough in the 61st minute, and it would prove to be the game-winning goal.

George Fox (4-2, 2-0 NWC) recorded five shots with four on target and held the Boxers to just one shot on the day. The hosts were unable to muster a shot on frame.

While possession was quite even, the visitors created some very good scoring chances in the first half. The Boxers (2-2, 0-1 NWC) looked sharp on the counter, using the pace of Mikayla Farrow (Sophomore/Sparks, NV) and Lydia King (Senior/Hillsboro, OR) on the wings, but were unable to find the final ball.

The Bruins took advantage of a set piece to score the lone goal of the match. A long free kick was delivered into the box and Taylor Ho managed to get a head on it, flicking the ball on to Kara Ryker who tapped home at the far post.

Farrow nearly netted the equalizer in the 81st minute when her curled effort from outside the box struck the crossbar and clattered away. This was the only shot of the contest for the Boxers.

George Fox was solid on the defensive end from start to finish and managed to see out the victory and earn all three points on the road.

By The Numbers
  • Catherine Corlett (Sophomore/Gilbert, AZ) made three saves between the posts.
  • George Fox are unbeaten in their last nine matches against Pacific.
