NEWBERG, Ore.- Cassidy Binder (Sophomore/Beaverton, OR) reached the final of the singles draw and she teamed up with her sister
Sydnie Binder (Junior/Beaverton, OR) to reach the final of the doubles draw, as the Pacific University women's tennis team had a fantastic showing at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by George Fox University
Singles
Cassidy Binder was the number-two seed in the singles draw and showed her dominance, as she only lost one game in her first three matches (6-0, 6-0), (6-0, 6-0), (6-0, 6-1). The sophomore continued by gutting out a three-set victory in the semifinal against Linfield's Tessa Kern (6-3, 4-6, 6-3). In the singles final, Binder was very competitive but fell to the number-one seed Angel Le of Whitman (7-5, 6-1).
Sydnie Binder was also very impressive on the other side of the singles draw, reaching the semifinal round of the tournament. The junior won her first three matches (6-0, 6-1), (6-1, 6-2), and (6-0, 6-1) respectively. In the semifinal round,
Sydnie Binder also fell to the number-one seed in the tournament and the eventual champion.
Grace Truong (Freshman/Portland, OR) won her first match (6-3, 6-0) but fell in the following round.
In the consolation singles draw,
Jessica Eligio (Junior/O'ahu, HI) notched two victories (8-5) and (8-3).
Doubles
The Binder sisters teamed up for an excellent run in the main doubles draw, reaching the final of the tournament after winning their first four matches (8-1), (8-0), (8-3), and (8-1). As the number-two seed, the duo faced the number-three seed team of Angle Le and Arianna Castellanos of Whitman.
The final would prove to be quite the battle, but the Le-Castellanos duo prevailed in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2).
The Boxers came out victorious in consolation doubles as
Valentina Casab-Klescova (Freshman/Mexico City, MX) and Truong teamed up to win their matches (8-4), (8-2), (8-1), and (8-3) en route to the title for that bracket.
Up Next
Pacific has concluded their fall schedule and will begin preparing for their spring season which begins on Feb. 25 when the Boxers face Highline College.
