Boxers and Wildcats Finish All Square

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University women's soccer team found the opening goal, but Linfield managed to cancel it out with a goal of their own in the second half as the two teams would finish all square on Wednesday night inside Hanson Stadium

Pacific (3-4-1, 1-3-1 NWC) looked lively to start and created some quality scoring chances in the early minutes. The Boxers registered eight shots in the contest but could only must two shots on target. Linfield (1-6-2, 0-4-1 NWC) struggled with the pressure applied by the hosts, but managed some good scoring opportunities as well with a total of seven shots and four on frame.

The Boxers nearly got on the scoresheet in the 12th minute when Mikayla Farrow (Sophomore/Sparks, NV) whipped in a beautiful corner kick that found the head of Julianna Ventura (Junior/Pasco, WA), but her headed effort would sail just wide of the post.

After some sustained pressure, Pacific finally broke through when Tessa Bretschieder (Freshman/Eugene, OR) finished off another stunning cross from Farrow, giving her team a 1-0 advantage.

Shortly after the second half kickoff, the Wildcats equalized through Ashley Guldager after the Boxers were unable to successfully clear a cross delivered from a corner kick.

The two teams would battle it out in two 10-minute extra time periods, but tired legs would stifle any offense with just three shots between the teams after the 90-minute mark. After 110 minutes of soccer, the points would be shared in the 1-1 draw.

By The Numbers
  • Bretschieder scored her third goal of the season and leads the team in scoring this season.
  • Catherine Corlett (Sophomore/Gilbert, AZ) made three saves between the posts.
  • The Boxers have not beaten the Wildcats since the 2016 season.
