Boxers Get First Win of the Season in California

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific University softball team picked up their first win of season over Occidental on Sunday afternoon. The Boxers also started a second game but was ended after three innings and outcome is to be determined due to an administrative error.
 
Pacific was highlighted on the day by Rylee Patton (Senior/Eastvale, CA) who pitched a complete game seven innings. In the winning effort, she surrendered eight hits but only two earned runs. Patton a two-way player for the Boxers also led the offense with three singles on the day.
 
 
Game 1
 
The Tigers came out swinging in the first inning when they scored the first two runs of the game. Needing to respond to the Tigers opening runs, the Boxers were held scoreless for the first three innings.
 
Patton got the Boxers rolling when she hit a single out to left field. Sydney Rusin (Junior/Portland, OR) was able advance to second when she hit a grounder down the middle. MiKaila Neilson (Junior/Frenchtown, MT) converted the much-needed double bringing Patton home giving the Boxers their first run of the day.
 
The Boxers kept the momentum going in the fifth inning when they got two hits from Michelle Winfield (Junior/Beaverton, OR) and Nicole Leadley (Junior/Bothell, WA) however neither player would cross home plate in the fifth inning keeping the score at 2-1
 
The Boxers came into the sixth inning firing on all cylinders. Patton led off the inning with a single down the left field line. Rusin would next come to the plate singling to third base and scoring Patton following an error by the third baseman. The error would move Rusin all the way to third base giving the Boxers another runner in scoring position. Following a strikeout, Nielson would come to the plate driving a single to right field scoring Rusin which would be the go ahead run. The Boxers would tack on two more runs in the inning when Carli Zanassi (Freshman/Bothell, WA) would reach on an error scoring the pinch running Makayla Kraemer (Junior/Sebastopol, CA) from third. Zanassi would score on a Winfield single pushing the lead to 5-2.
 
The Tigers would be held scoreless in the final two innings giving the Boxers their first win by a margin of 5-2.

The Boxers return home for a rare Wednesday double header on Feb. 16th against Oregon Tech with the start time scheduled for 2 P.M. for game one.
