Boxers Conclude Series With George Fox

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific Softball was unable to avoid the sweep on Wednesday evening as George Fox came away with the 10-4 victory to take the series finale.

After the contest on Mar. 12 was postponed due to inclement weather, play would resume on Wednesday night to conclude the series.

The Bruins struck for three early runs but a four-run fourth inning for Pacific would give the Boxers the lead. However, the visitors exploded for seven runs over the final three frames to clinch the series sweep.

Annika McNeel (Senior/Beaverton, OR) enjoyed a two-hit day in the leadoff spot, driving in one run on the night.

Michelle Winfield (Junior/Beaverton, OR) picked up two RBI in her 2-for-3 night at the plate.

How It Happened

The Bruins used a leadoff home run to take an early lead in the contest. Rylee Patton (Senior/Eastvale, CA), starting pitcher for the Boxers, would settle down after the homer by getting two pop-ups and a strikeout to get out of the inning with no further damage.

George Fox extended their lead in the second frame by pushing two runs across to make the score 3-0.

Pacific rallied to take the lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. MiKaila Neilson (Junior/Frenchtown, MT) led things off with a double before Nicole Leadley (Junior/Bothell, WA) brought her around to score. Carli Zanassi (Freshman/Bothell, WA) drew a walk to keep the line moving and Winfield provided a big swing by lacing a double down the right field line to plate two more runs, evening the score at 3-3. With two outs in the inning, McNeel roped a line drive to right for the third hit of the inning, scoring Winfield from second base to give Pacific the lead.

Patton surrendered a leadoff double but regrouped to get two quick outs. Unfortunately, a misplay in the outfield would allow the tying run to score in the top of the fifth.

In the top of sixth, three hits followed by a two-run blast would give George Fox an 8-4 lead. Lindsey Greenfield (Sophomore/Mukilteo, WA) would come on to relieve Patton after her five innings of work. Greenfield collected two consecutive punchouts before George Fox's Katie Ladd hit a two-run shot to make it a six-run advantage for the visitors.

The Boxers would go scoreless for the last three innings and the Bruins would come away with the win.
