Boxers Take Down Austin College to Close Oregon Trail Classic

Cambra earns 1,000th career assist as Pacific heads into conference play on a high note.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific Volleyball dropped its first match against North Park but rebounded with an impressive four-set victory over Austin College in the final game of the Oregon Trail Classic.

The Boxers hit .265 as a team in their win over the 'Roos, their second-highest mark of the season.

Top Performers

  • Shaianne Cambra earned her 1,000th career assist in the first game of the day. The setter enjoyed a fantastic performance, racking up 30 assists against North Park before putting up 42 assists in the team's win over Austin College. Cambra has now tallied 30 or more assists in three straight matches.
  • Mara Murphy recorded 19 kills in game one before exploding for 24 kills in the afternoon contest. She hit .291 in the match against AC, her best hitting performance in a four-set match.
  • Alison Brown registered a season-high 11 kills in the team's win, hitting .265.
  • Sarah Hon racked up a season-high eight services aces, which is the program record for the most aces in a four-set match.

Game 1 – North Park

Pacific fell in the first set of the match, but rallied to take set two following a 6-0 sparked by two Lacy Churchfield kills. The Vikings snatched the third set after racing to a 5-1 lead. The Boxers battled back but the North Park attacked proved to be too much.

In the final set, Pacific held a 23-20 advantage but a late surge from the visitors allowed the Vikings to seal the 3-1 win.

Game 2 – Austin College

The Boxers dominated the opening set by creating a quick 15-4 advantage behind four Murphy kills and four consecutive service aces courtesy of Hon. Logan Smith would enter the contest and rattle off back-to-back kills to put her team out of sight, and Pacific would earn the first-set victory.

Austin College bounced back and evened the match at a set apiece, rallying from a 20-16 deficit to eventually come away with the 25-22 win.

A tight set three was decided by a late 7-0 run from the hosts. Claire Stipsits posted three service aces and Murphy slammed a couple kills to propel the Boxers to a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Pacific cruised in the fourth and final set when two kills from Brown followed by an exclamation point from Hon allowed the Boxers to close out the weekend with a win in the Stoller Center.
