FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific Volleyball struggled in their Northwest Conference opener as George Fox picked up the 3-1 victory on Friday night inside the Stoller Center.
The Boxers hit just .129 as a team while the visitors enjoyed a very solid night, posting a hitting percentage of .252 for the match.
Top Performers
- Alison Brown racked up 12 kills while hitting .237 in a great performance from the junior.
- Lacy Churchfield reached double-digit kills for the first time in her career, recording 10 on the night.
- Mara Murphy led the Boxers with 14 kills, registering eight digs on the defensive end as well.
- Libero Danica Nelson put up a season-high 23 digs.
How It Happened
Pacific fell into an early 6-2 deficit in the first set, but quickly rallied to take a 13-10 lead. George Fox would turn things around, however, and rattle off five straight points to regain their advantage. The Boxers were unable to recover and the Bruins rode the momentum to a 25-18 win in set one.
Pacific trailed halfway through the second set but managed to gain a foothold in the match following a 5-0 scoring run punctuated by two
Charlotte Powell kills. The Boxers evened things up at 1-1 after their 25-19 set victory.
The third set would prove to be another back-and-forth battle but the visitors produced an 8-1 run to take full control. They would eventually cruise to a 25-18 set win to restore their advantage heading into the fourth set.
Another big run gave the Bruins a 14-8 lead in the fourth set, and George Fox would later clinch the 3-1 win following their 25-17 victory.
What It Means
The Boxers fall to 0-1 in conference play while the Bruins improve to 2-0 to start their NWC campaign. Pacific has lost three of its last four matches.
