How It Happened
The Boxers opened the first set with a 14-10 lead following the kill from Murphy. Willamette was able to respond with a 4-0 run of their own to even the contest. Both teams traded points before the hosts gained control of the first set with five straight points to take a commanding 22-18 lead on the way to the 25-20 opening set win.
Both teams played a back and forth second set before Willamette won the last three points of the set aided by a service ace that forced set point.
Gaining a significant amount of momentum after the first two sets, the host Bearcats got out to an early 10-6 lead in the third set. Not wanting to call it a night after three sets, the Boxers showed resiliency to score four unanswered points including three kills by three different Boxers. The hosts had other plans however as they rattled off multiple scoring runs cruising to the 25-19, three set win.
What It Means
