Davis Earns First Win at the Helm of Pacific Women's Soccer

Three freshmen score on their collegiate debuts to win season opener

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Head Coach Chelsea Davis earned her first win at the helm of Pacific women's soccer with an impressive 4-1 victory over Evergreen State College.

Two freshman found their way onto the scoresheet in their collegiate debuts as the Boxers used four first-half goals to put themselves out of sight.

Top Performers

  • Rhyah Jackson was excellent at the striker position, netting a brace in just over 20 minutes.
  • Mirella Garcia scored a wonderful goal from outside the box while controlling the game in the midfield.
  • Ivette Garcia-Gomez put in some brilliant minutes and earned herself a goal in the 27th minute to finish off a great attacking move from the Red and Black.
  • Pacific was anchored in defense by Julianna Ventura, Makaila Takahashi, and Catalina Alvaradoas the trio played all 90 minutes.

How It Happened

The Boxers scored the opener just 48 seconds into the contest when Jackson was sent through on goal and calmly slotted a left-footed shot into the back of the net to score her first Pacific goal.

Evergreen State would quickly equalize, however, as Brie Dell found some space in behind the Boxers' defense to level the score at 1-1.

Jackson put Pacific back in front with some lovely individual skill in the 22nd minute. The forward flicked a header over a defender and took a fantastic touch around the keeper, and with still work to be done, fired a shot from the right edge of the box to score her second goal of the match.

Just three minutes later, Garcia gathered the ball on the left side of the box before unleashing a rocket into the top corner of the net to give the Boxers a two-goal cushion. Pacific continued to pour it on when Garcia-Gomez capitalized on a defensive miscue from the Geoducks to make the score 4-1 and put the game out of reach.

What It Means

The Boxers win their season opener for the third straight season.
