TACOMA, Wash. – A
Brody Bantolina 18-yard touchdown run gave Pacific the lead at halftime.
But the Boxer offense sputtered in the second half, falling 17-10 Saturday afternoon at Pacific Lutheran.
Jacob Schuh gave the Lutes the lead, 14-10, on a 9-yard touchdown run with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. Pacific Lutheran then added a 24-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
An interception by
Charles Bennett gave the Boxers the football inside the Pacific Lutheran 30-yard line with 8:37 remaining in the game.
However, Pacific turned the ball over on downs after gaining just six yards.
The Boxer defense forced a punt to give the offense one last shot to tie the game with 1:23 remaining.
Quarterback
Ryan Helt connected with
Tyler Vargas for a 15-yard gain to begin the drive. But Pacific ultimately turned the ball over on downs at its own 33-yard line.
The Lutes then took a knee to end the game.
The Boxer offense was held to just 78 yards on 26 plays in the second half.
Helt completed 17 of 30 pass attempts for 152 yards.
Isaiah Pitre had four receptions for 81 yards. Bantolina rushed for 84 yards and the touchdown on 20 carries.
Tyler Leick kicked a 33-yard field goal with 12:10 remaining in the first quarter.
Pacific's defense forced five turnovers – three interceptions and two fumbles.
Robert Wood recorded eight total tackles, including three for loss.
The Lutes outgained Pacific 382 yards to 244.
Next, the Boxers host Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Oct. 14 for homecoming.
