Pacific's 21 seniors went out in a record-breaking blaze of glory.
Playing at Hanson Stadium for the final time in 2023, the Boxers racked up a school record 598 yards of total offense to defeat Willamette 64-6 Saturday night.
"As much as we love these seniors, it's very meaningful for us to put together that quality of football, especially in that first half,"
Ian Falconer said. "We really love those guys and for them to get that kind of send off is the most important thing to me. I'm super proud. They had a great week of preparation and it showed."
Pacific scored four touchdowns in the first quarter to race out to a 28-0 lead.
Kalai Pasi started the scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run with 8:59 remaining in the quarter.
After Pacific's
Tatum Tausaga blocked a Willamette punt,
Brody Bantolina took advantage of the short field position with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Braeden Titus completed 46-yard and 32-yard touchdown passes to
Tyler Vargas and
Jaden Ramos.
Titus added a 6-yard touchdown pass to tight end
Braeden Lowe to stretch the Boxers lead to 34-0 with 11:49 remaining in the second quarter. After Bantolina added a 20-yard touchdown run,
Ryan Helt connected with
Tyler Penn for a 19-yard touchdown.Â
With 32 seconds remaining in the second quarter,
Kai Bookland made a diving catch in the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown to give the Boxers a commanding 55-0 lead ta halftime.
After
Nicholas Veach blocked a Willamette punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety,
Colton Smith added a 1-yard touchdown run with 4:47 remaining in the third quarter to complete the scoring.
Pacific rushed for 223 yards and passed 375 yards to break a total yards record set against Whitman in 1972.Â
Titus completed 10 of 13 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns. Helt completed 11 of 13 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
Vargas caught five passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Isaiah Pitre had four receptions for 83 yards.
Pacific's defense held Willamette to 180 yards of total offense on 48 plays. Tausaga recorded five tackles and a sack.
Loudyn Reese had five tackles and half a sack.
Koari'i Atkinson-Sioloa and
Jesse Stroede each had an interception in the victory.
Next, the Boxers close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 11 at George Fox. The Bruins won at Pacific 14-9 on Sept. 9 in an Oregon Cup matchup.Â
"We're really excited about replaying that game," Falconer said. "This is league play. This is for real, so let's go to their place and play our best football for our last contest. I want to see us show up with the light in our eyes to get better."Â
