Boxers Conclude Season

NEWBERG, Ore.- The Pacific men's basketball team concluded the 2022-23 season with a 59-57 loss against George Fox.
 
The Bruins were able to establish the small edge over the Boxers scoring 17 points off of turnovers compared to the 10 the Boxers scored.
 
Top Performers
 
  • Jacob Bolger led all scorers with 16 points while also earning the double-double with 10 rebounds.
  • Lucas Winkler handed out two assists in the contest which puts him at 185 total assists on the year which is a new school record.
  • Jared Cattell in his final game as a Boxer was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
 
How It Happened
 
It was a slow start for the Boxers as they were held scoreless over the first four and a half minutes to open the game. When Winkler scored the first Pacific points of the game with a jumper in the lane, George Fox held a 6-2 lead. The Boxers would score 10 unanswered points to take a 10-6 lead with 12:46 remaining. The Boxers had multiple scoring runs that were answered by the Bruins to keep them in the game. With 33 seconds remaining in the first half Pacific had opened their first double digit lead. They would maintain that same lead as they headed to the break up 31-21.
 
The Boxers and Bruins would trade buckets to open the half with Pacific holding a 38-28 lead with 15:59 remaining in the contest. Over the next 2:24 the Bruins would score 8 unanswered points to make it a one possession game. The two teams would again not get a lead larger than four until George Fox was able to tie the game at 50 apiece. Cattell would hit a pair of free throws with 3:31 remaining in the game which gave the Boxers a 54-53 lead. The hosts however would put it away with a 6-0 scoring run to earn the 59-57 win.
 
Pacific concludes the 2022-23 season with an eighth-place finish in the NWC standings.
