FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University softball team dropped three of four games on Saturday and Sunday to Willamette University.
Top Performers
- Chloe Knepp blasted a pair of home runs on Sunday tallying three RBI's on the weekend and pitching a season high three innings.
- Samantha Petitt, Samantha Madsen and Nicole Leadley tallied four hits a piece on the weekend.
- In game three of the series Sydney Rusin, went 3-4 with two singles and a double.
Game 1
Mia Barrozo pitched all seven innings for the Boxers allowing them only one hit in the first four innings. The Boxers and Bearcats played a scoreless four innings before the visitors would go on to find three runs in the top half of the fifth. The Bearcats would win game one 3-0.
Game 2
In the first at-bat of game two for the Boxers, Sami Petitt would score the sole run of the game. With a 2-1 count Petitt singled up the center to get on base, Petitt would quickly find herself in scoring position stealing second base before scoring off a throwing error from right field.
Lindsey Greenfield would pitch all seven innings to earn the win for the Boxers. Greenfield held the Bearcats scoreless allowing only two hits, a new season high.
Game 3
The Bearcats struck first in the third game of the weekend, taking a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first. Samantha Madsen stepped up to the plate in the bottom half of the second to get things started for the Boxers. Madsen would find herself a double followed by a walk for Sydney Rusin. Chloe Knepp would lay down a perfectly placed bunt to get the bases loaded before a walk for Zanassi would plate Vickory. Petit would keep things rolling for the Red and Black smashing a three-run RBI triple to take the 4-2 lead.
The visitors evened things up at 4-4 in the next frame, using an RBI double to push two runs across. Pacific's Leadley would keep things alive for the Boxers in the fifth finding her first hit of the day with two outs. Rusin would hit an RBI single to give the Red and Black the 5-4 lead.
The Bearcats would push one run across in the top of the sixth to tie up the game 5-5.
Mia Barrozo was in the circle for Pacific pitching the first six innings, making her eleventh appearance this season. Rusin came on to relieve Barrozo in the seventh inning and tossed six innings of her own, striking out three batters.
Both teams would go scoreless over the next five frames before the Bearcats took the lead, 6-5.
Chloe Knepp would immediately respond launching her first home run of her Pacific career at no better time, quickly regaining the lead for the Boxers in the bottom half of the eleventh.
Rusin surrendered a leadoff double that would score on a passed ball, Rusin quickly regrouped to find the next two outs before Willamette managed to get two runners on the corners scoring one more. Pacific was unable to tie the game in the bottom half and the Bearcats would walk away with the 8-6 victory.
Game 4
Lindsey Greenfield started game four in the circle and surrendered five earned runs in her four innings of work, striking out three. She would hand the ball over to Chloe Knepp who made her first NWC pitching appearance.
A five-run first inning gave Willamette a comfortable lead early in the contest, adding one more to the board in the second frame. Pettit would walk in the bottom half of the third, making her way around the bases to tally a run for the Boxers.
The visitors would extend the lead to 8-1 in the fifth before the Boxers would get the bats going in the sixth, cutting the deficit in half. Madsen and Rusin led off the inning with back to back doubles before Knepp smashed her second homer of the day platting herself and Rusin.
The Bearcats would push two more runs across in the seventh to find double digits. The Boxers would find two runs bottom of the seventh, but it would be too little, too late and the Bearcats would come away with the 10-6 win.
