Boxers win at Willamette in four sets

SALEM -- The Pacific volleyball team got a much-needed Northwest Conference road victory Tuesday night, winning 3-1 at Willamette.

The Boxers started and finished strong to break a six-match losing streak.

Pacific raced out to a 14-4 lead in the first set and finished off the Bearcats 25-15. After Willamette won the second set 27-25 to even the match, the Boxers answered with a 25-22 victory in the third set.

Pacific then dominated the fourth set 25-14 to win the match, its first victory since defeating winless Lewis & Clark on Oct. 12.

Sophomore Emma Velchek filled up the stat sheet, finishing with 11 kills, a career-high 22 digs, four aces and two blocks. Senior Mara Murphy recorded 18 kills to add to her career record. Senior Danica Nelson posted 23 digs and four aces.

As a team, the Boxers had 11 aces to improve to 4-11 in the NWC.

The series between Pacific and Willamette has gone back-and-forth. The two teams are 4-4 in the last eight matchups since 2021.

Next: The Boxers will finish the regular season and celebrate senior night at home on Friday at 7 p.m. against Lewis & Clark.
