Boxers win in extra innings to sweep Puget Sound

Pacific scored one run in the bottom of the ninth and then another in the 10th to come from behind to defeat Puget Sound 5-4 Sunday afternoon in game two of a non-conference doubleheader. 

The victory came after the Boxers won game one 9-3.

Game 1

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the third, Pacific tied the game on a Walker Matthews sacrifice fly followed by a bases loaded walk by Vincent Lagatta.

Ty Yukomoto then scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning on a Matthews RBI double to left field. Pacific added three more runs in both the fifth and eighth innings.

Mathews went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Yukomoto was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two stolen bases, two runs and two RBIs. Davis Koester was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and three RBIs. CJ Colyer went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs. 

Will Clark (1-0) earned the win on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts over four innings. Joey Harmon recorded his first save of the season, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings. 

Game 2

Down 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Miles Bergman tied the game on an RBI single to center field by Jack Rhea

With two outs in the 10th, Jett Mai knocked in Matt Gibbs for the game-winning run on a walk-off single to center field. 

On the mound Colyer (1-0) shut out the Loggers in the ninth and 10th to earn the win. 

The Boxers improved to 5-1 with the two wins. 

Next, Pacific opens Northwest Conference play on March 2-3 at Linfield.
