WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Pacific got six strong innings from starting pitcher
Shane Melrose in a 4-2 win Sunday afternoon at Whitman.
The Boxers avoided a sweep after Whitman won 5-1 and 8-6 Saturday in games one and two.
Game 1
The Blues jumped on Pacific early with four runs in the first three innings.Â
Jake Gallagher delivered an RBI double, scoring
CJ Colyer in the top of the eighth inning for the Boxers only run of the game.
Jack Rhea was 2-for-4 with a double.Â
Pacific left 11 runners on base in the loss.
Game 2
Pacific took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a
Dawson Tokishi home run. However, Whitman scored four unanswered runs to take control of the game.Â
Down 8-4,
Matt Gibbs hit a two-run homer to right field in the ninth inning, but the Boxers rally ended there.
Gibbs was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Ty Yukumoto went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Walker Matthew also hit a home run in the loss.
Game 3
Melrose held Whitman to six hits and two runs over six innings to earn the game three win.
Davis Koester shut out the Blues over 2 2/3 innings to record the save.
Pacific jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. After Whitman answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, the Boxers added one run in the top of the seventh on a
Benjamin Lewis RBI single.Â
Lewis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Gibbs was 2-for-5 and scored a run.
Damon Tanner added a triple and scored a run in the win.Â
Next, Pacific plays at La Verne, California on March 29-30.Â
