LA VERNE, Calif. -- Pacific's offense woke up Friday afternoon, recording 14 hits in a 16-5 victory over La Verne to avoid the series sweep.
After dropping game one 4-2 Thursday night, the Boxers fell 7-5 Saturday morning in game two.
Game 1
Down 4-0, Pacific finally got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
With two outs,
Ty Yukumoto tripled to center field to drive in
Hunter Zielasko and
Davis Koester.
The Boxers then left two runners on base in the eighth inning and one more in the top of the ninth.
Pacific hitters struck out 16 times and left nine runners on base in the loss.
Game 2
Pacific's offense got off to another slow start in game two, falling behind 4-0 after four innings.
The Boxers scored one run in the top of the fifth and three in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. However, La Verne answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Boxers and Leopards each added a run in the eighth inning.
CJ Colyer went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs to lead Pacific at the plate.
Game 3
The Boxers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and scored in every inning to win the final game of the series.
Benjamin Lewis was 4-for-5 with three doubles, four runs and three RBIs. Colyer finished 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs and two RBIs.
Trevor Kazahaya went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in the win.
Ayden Ruminski earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits and one run over 1 2/3 innings.
With the win, Pacific improved to 15-7 overall.
Next, the Boxers play at Whittier on Sunday at 11 a.m.
